This week, here’s what we have been up to:

  • Sophie published the latest flood plans as accessible files on our website. These documents are designed to support communities across Wales to safely prepare for flooding events. Specialists in the flood team have tailored templates for different user groups, with schools, communities and business flood plans alongside personal flood plan guidance.

  • Mary has been reviewing news releases and blogs published by the Comms Officers who have recently had refresher training on how to use our content management system. She has identified fewer issues, particularly with the use of headings, than there were before the training. However, some staff are still creating links incorrectly and making some formatting errors. Mary fixed any urgent serious issues that she spotted (for example, a link to register for a forthcoming consultation event) and she has also contacted each Comms Officer individually to flag up errors and give advice on how to fix them or avoid them in future.

  • James is writing up a health check of our Hotjar account with recommendations for the next steps.

  • Sam and Jane did a run through of the forest management plan work in our weekly team meeting. They shared how it all started, how they worked with SMEs, the challenges and constraints, and how the project changed as they learned more about the process and user needs.

  • Jane has been working on a blog about the forest management plan project. She has also done a 2i review of the ‘Change a species licence’ form.

  • Sam ran a mini workshop with the team exploring what our approach should be to writing summaries – the descriptions that appear under page titles in internal search results. Based on our collective view, Sam’s drafting some simple team guidance to help us write them consistently so that we’re helping users find what they need.

  • Kim refreshed our form testing checklist we use when launching a new or substantially revised form.

  • Sam’s been working on some simple signposting content for waste permit holders who will soon need to record waste received using the new GOV.UK digital waste tracking service.
